Wednesday, March 21st, 2012. New York City – Hundreds of people came to Union Square park and marched to demand justice for 17yo Trayvon Martin. Trayvon was murdered by George Zimmermanon on February 26, 2012.

His parents parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin attended the rally. As of 3/24/12, more than one million seven hundred thousand people had signed the online petition asking Florida Attorney General (Pam Bondi), Sanford Police Chief (Bill Lee), US Attorney General (Eric Holder) and Florida’s 4th District State’s Attorney (Angela Corey) to call for justice for Trayvon Martin and his family.

Los padres de Martin estuvieron presentes. Hasta hoy, 24/3/2012, más de un millon setecientos mil personas han firmado la petición en Internet pidiendo a diferentes autoridades que se haga justicia a Trayvon Martin y su familia.

Obama spoke out publicly Friday for the first time on the matter. “When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids,” Obama told reporters in response to a question. “And I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this and that everybody pulls together — federal, state and local — to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened.” He also said, “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.”

On 03/22/2012The Huffington Post reports that “At a hastily called press conference Thursday afternoon, Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte Jr. announced that beleaguered police Chief Bill Lee Jr. is stepping down temporarily amid growing anger over his handling of the investigation into the killing of Trayvon Martin. Bonaparte told reporters that he hoped the move would “restore calm to the city of Sanford” and help speed the case through the legal process.”

On Thursday, March 22th, 2012, the Sanford City Commission voted 3-2 that it had no confidence in Police Chief Bill Lee Jr. over his handling of the Trayvon Martin shooting.

Velma Williams, the city’s only black commissioner, said she spent 15 years trying to bring together the black community and white community, and the Martin episode has taken an emotional toll. “And now this. It’s a national embarrassment,” she said.

Two lawmakers who crafted the Stand Your Ground Law say the measure doesn’t apply to the shooter of Trayvon Martin, a Miami teen shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer, and he should face charges.

“He has no protection under my law,” said Former Sen. Durell Peaden, one of the law’s authors, The Miami Herald reported. “They got the goods on him. They need to prosecute whoever shot the kid.” Peaden said that when George Zimmerman told dispatch that he was following Martin he lost his defense under the law.

There’s still been no arrest!

This Monday, March 26th at 4:00pm, members of MoveOn.org will deliver to the Justice Department’s headquarters in Washington, DC the petition calling for JUSTICE FOR TRAYVON MARTIN. It’s been nearly a month since the high school junior was gunned down walking home from a convenience store, the victim of senseless violence. And today, his killer remains free.

Why?

No one has sufficient answers to that burning question. And public outrage is growing. Sign and share the petition with your family, friends and neighbors. The family wants to send the strongest message possible to Attorney General Holder that they want justice now! This is not the time to give up, but to dig deeper. Trayvon Martin’s murder is an affront to decency, civil rights, and freedom. Take a minute to sign and share.
